Career highlights at Sidewalk

CONGRATULATIONS to Michelle and Antonio!!

We are proud to announce that two of our recent high school graduates are working at Baptist Health! After completing an 8-week Tipping the Scale job readiness program, and High School graduation, they were awarded internships! Both have been with us at Sidewalk since they were children and it has been such a joy watching them grow!! We want our kids to know and love Christ our Savior, but of next importance is our desire to see them become productive citizens.

Sidewalk continues to partner with great companies in Jacksonville to present “Career Nights” to our teens IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. We are proud to work with and thankful for the commitment of, WW Gay Mechanical, Miller Electric, and Batson-Cook, to expose our teens to potential career opportunities so they can lead a life of hope and make a positive impact on those around them. We were also blessed to have Sidewalk missionary Tara Adams and her husband Reggie, an electrical engineer, present at Valencia Way.

Check out the cool ways we get to expose teens to job opportunities in the pictures below!!

X marks the spot! W.W. Gay teaches Crane Signals with a boom truck at Calloway Cove

W.W. Gay made pipe-fitting drawings and brought the PVC to make crosses and chairs.

The kids had fun sitting on their own constructed chairs!

Batson-Cook hosted a "Small Tools Workshop" giving the teens some real-life skills that they could put to use now at Home - each teen received their own toolbox full of small hand tools, measuring tape, and fasteners!!

Miller Electric along with trainers from the National Electrical Contractors Association, NECA brought their introduction to electrical projects to Desert Winds.

For added inspiration, Councilman Terrance Freeman shared some of his story and encouraged the teens to have and pursue their goals.

Electrical engineer Reggie Adams, prepared a series of complex table projects exemplifying electrical engineering and to challenge those kids to expand their horizons.

We so appreciate every company, program, and individual that takes time out of their busy lives to show these kids a glimpse of life outside of their communities, and what their futures could look like - enabling these kids to have opportunities to succeed. A special thanks to Batson-Cook, Miller Electric, W.W. Gay Mechanical, and Reggie Adams.

May the Lord Bless each and every one of you who pray, give, and serve with us to impact these communities in Jax with the Hope that only a relationship with Jesus Christ can give.
